Chef Robbie Wilson of Mattei’s Tavern in Santa Barbara—and formerly of Maison Troisgros, Craft, Nobu, and The French Laundry—has outdone himself with his second restaurant BIRD DOG in Palo Alto.

In short: GO THERE NOW!

Robbie’s menu offers smaller portions of big flavors. He brings classic French and Japanese techniques to the menu with raw seafood, proteins and vegetable items. Everything is served on pristine dishware and styled to minimalist perfection. Robbie’s dishes are absolutely outstanding, but we especially loved the Tai Snapper, Wood Grilled Avocado and Wagyu Ribeye—a must-order.

Sommelier Brent Jones paired the avocado with the most delicious and unique sauvignon blanc and recommended a rich red wine with the beef. The meal and wines were impeccable on their own, but together, created a perfect marriage and dinner experience.

To experience dining at its finest at a new restaurant that’s bound for a ton of accolades next year, add BIRD DOG to your list. But hurry, we heard there’s already a month-long wait to make a reservation.
